Poles and Stiches
So at Byron's b-ball game last Saturday, Emily & Benny were playing on the upstairs level of the Teen Center when Emily comes down the stairs pouring in blood and screaming for me. Benny told us she ran into a pole (which we found out later has a metal thing that was sticking out). I ran her to the bathroom to find a gash in her head. I put paper towels and applied pressure, cleaned her up and grabbed Steve. Luckily Cliff & Jeanette were at the game to take the boys to their house for us. We drove as fast as Steve could to the Emergency Room, where they saw us immediately and analyzed her gash. It had stopped bleeding by this point, so they cleaned her up and told us she would need a few stitches. The nurses were great there, especially the male nurse, and they even gave her a purple and pink bunny and princess stickers....the highlight for her. The doctor was OK, but he scared her with the shot, so she cried which made it worse because the blood vessel popped out and bled everywhere, so they couldn't see where the shot needed to go. But other than that she was very brave and didn't cry at all. After we were done, we went to get her a cookies and cream shake, and off to a family bar-b-q. She did really good, until she realized that the band aid couldn't stay on all the time to cover it. Then she got super sad because she said she felt ugly. Now I can understand, because when I was 12 I had stitches in the same spot, and even last year with my thyroid surgery the stitches made me feel like Frankenstein. But we told her how pretty she was, the boys did too, and then Steve gave her a blessing (oh how I love having the priesthood in my home). Then on Sunday I took extra time to paint her nails, fix her hair, and let her wear lip gloss to church. So now she thinks it is pretty cool. I will have to take pictures because I forgot before now. But I am proud of my little beautiful princess who was so brave.

how scary! i am glad it all turned out okay and that the nurses were so nice. i hope she heals quickly...poor girl.
WOW, that must of been scary!! I'm glad that she is okay and only needed stitches.
I hit a pole and had to get stitches too. Maybe it's a girl thing :)
I think girls seem to be a lot braver than boys when they get hurt. Just my observation :) I hope she is feeling better.
