So our mini vacation was not really camping, more hanging out in a cabin (thank goodness for our connection with the Scout office). So we went up Payson Canyon on Sunday, up to Mapledell (a scout camp) and stayed in a cabin (more of a house). It was nice to be in the cabin, because there was snow still in some parts of camp, and little Tyson would have been cold.
We had a ton of fun! We ate smores over a campfire (and if you haven't tried the strawberry marshmallows with the smores...you have to, it is yum!!), ate yummy dutch oven food, flew kites, hiked, fished, played in the snow, and hiked some more. A lot of my time was spent with Tyson in the cabin taking naps, or hauling him up the hill to see the kites. But he got pretty heavy to try and carry on a hike(He is a whopping 25 lbs at 8 months)...next time I need to get a hiking backpack for him. But the fun thing about being with him is that he learned to crawl everywhere, and he learned to clap by himself. It was so much fun to watch him get excited at his first clapping experience.
Steve and the kids did a ton of hiking and fishing...Emily caught her first fish, or should I say first 2 fish. Byron caught 2 fish, and Steve caught 1 (he would have caught more, but he had to help the other 2 kids), and Ben just caught scared of the fish when they started to flop on the bank.
With the Kite Flying, I took Byron and Emily out, while Steve, Ben, and Tyson slept. Then when their little arms were tired (they loved running circles holding up the string and kite more than standing still) we went and got the others and everyone came to fly kites. I think Steve liked it the best...or should we say was the most determined. He kept flying the kites while the kids ran around chasing butterflies and skipping rocks. What a trooper!
We came back Tuesday just in time for the snow to come in...yipee snow again ! :( I love spring break vacations, and now I have to get back to spring cleaning and washing the mounds of laundry that await me from camping. Look at the previous blog to see pictures from our trip!

It sounds like you had lots of fun for your spring break mini vacation. It's nice to get away - even when it is just 40 minutes away. I guess Jeanette wasn't just pulling your leg when she said there was a good place to fly kites up there! :)
It looks like you had so much fun. I can't get over the fact that it is Spring Break and snow is still on the ground!!
Love it! What a great way to spend a vacation and have wonderful family time :) You're the best parents. That is seriously so COOL and FUN for all of you. I love the photos. What a blast! I want to go to the cabin too :) Sorry about the snow :(
That is my idea of camping :). We can wait until it gets a little warmer so we can get out and enjoy these Utah mountains again.
